🎙️ We’re thrilled to announce our NZ$145 million deal with global asset manager MONTE to finance the acquisition of REGENT's all-electric seagliders to operate in New Zealand in a major milestone for the deployment of seagliders across the country. 'This initiative marks a significant step in Ocean Flyer's mission to enhance prosperity and economic development in the regions, through efficient and affordable connectivity,' said Shahnawaz Aslam, CEO of Ocean Flyer. Timothy Eyre, Chief Operating Officer of MONTE said, 'Ocean Flyer are pioneers in the sustainable maritime sector with a strong commitment to decarbonisation. We are excited to work with the Ocean Flyer team to bring sustainable seaglider operations to New Zealand and the wider market.' MONTE will finance the first NZ$145 million of Ocean Flyer's historic NZ$700m agreement signed in April 2022 with US-based manufacturer REGENT to bring 25 seagliders to New Zealand. Ocean Flyer’s mission is to revolutionise travel in New Zealand by connecting communities across the country in what is believed to be the country’s largest ever private investment in transport. Today’s deal with MONTE, a UK-based investor which has arranged financing for more than NZ$42 billion of transportation assets over the last 30 years, paves the way for the first seagliders. It was great to host the Singapore delegation representing the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) to discuss the seaglider program that both countries are implementing as we speak. New Zealand Trade & Enterprise were a great host for us all. Singapore is one of many countries from Asia who have reached out over the last few months to engage with us in New Zealand as they all up their human resources for the introduction of seagliders as a new mode of transportation over the coming years. We are humbled by the engagement of countries such as Singapore. As Ocean Flyer proudly stands as the world's first seaglider-only operator, our ongoing efforts in IP development for operations in New Zealand provide us with a unique advantage in fostering informed discussions on seagliders. What a pleasure to have finally met The University of Waikato’s senior engineering lecturer, Raymond Hudd. Ray reached out to us in mid-2022 to be part of their third-year engineering students’ civil engineering design project. As a new concept, Ocean Flyer’s seagliders provided ample scope for these undergraduates to pitch us with some original seaglider infrastructure designs and solutions for their graded assignment. Meticulously, they considered our requirements from costing, to materials to a variety of sustainable options. After many Zoom sessions with Ray and the students 📽️ we finally met at their invitation to their Engineering Faculty’s Design Show.
